Study Overview
Advanced Mobile Resource Management Market Experiences Rebound
To qualify as Advanced Mobile Resource Management, a given solution must provide both standard mobile resource management (MRM) functionality as well as advanced functionality. Advanced functionality extends standard automatic vehicle location functionality by transmitting, integrating, managing, and reporting additional remote data that is typically derived from an engine’s electronic control module or remote sensors.  Examples of advanced functionality include hours of service reporting, engine fault code monitoring, vehicle breaking and diagnostics, and reporting of power take off activities.

A number of factors are influencing growth in the Advanced MRM market. Most significant are advancements in supporting technology and motor carrier regulations within the US. The advancements in hardware capabilities have reduced the upfront cost for Advanced MRM solutions.  In addition, the use of terrestrial networks has reduced communications fees.  These two factors have lowered the total cost of ownership enough to enable the benefits of the solution to outweigh the costs in market segments that previously viewed MRM as cost prohibitive.  Service industries are a primary example of a market segment where this is the case.

A recently enacted US federal compliance, safety, and accountability (CSA) initiative requires motor carriers that fail to meet the program’s guidelines to adopt and utilize electronic on-board recorders (EOBRs). This mandated adoption of EOBRs is expected to drive adoption of Advanced MRM solutions when it becomes effective in 2012.

Strategic Issues
Numerous technological, user industry-specific, and regional factors will affect the Advanced MRM market over the 2010 to 2015 forecast period.  In the near future, growth will be driven by a rebound in technology investment that often occurs after economic downturns.  However, the extent, timing, and drivers of growth will vary according to region, industry vertical, and other factors. This study will help to answer questions such as:

  • What are the expected growth levels by end user industry and when will this growth occur?
  • What factors will influence growth within this market and how will the various market segments be affected?
  • Who are the leading suppliers in the various regions, industries, and other revenue segments and what are their market shares?
