Study Overview

Production Machinery Automation Expanding Regionally
ARCs coverage of the Production Machinery market is an effort to provide automation suppliers with a perspective of the demand side that is not available from any of our traditional market outlook reports.  In effect, this type of research will be more applicable to strategic planning services within a very diverse community of automation system and component suppliers.

Automation suppliers have been vertically focused internally across a broad cross section of the OEM industrial machinery market.  The continued expansion of machine builders throughout the world regions is a result of the emergence of new markets.

Developing economies all over the world are increasing the demand for industrial machinery at high rates.  Feeding this demand has been a surge of regional machine builders with a vertical specialization that goes beyond machine performance issues, but there is greater understanding of the technical and cultural needs of the end user customer.  Regional OEMs, including both domestic and foreign transplants, have leveraged their close proximity to the customer to create an understanding of the particular niche their customers operate in and are able to build machines which are more suitable to address the regional issues.

Strategic Issues
The growth of regional OEMs has enabled manufacturers who once relied on a comparative labor advantage to produce low valued products to become confident with employing machinery in their facilities that will enable production of higher valued finished goods.   Strategic issues discussed include:

  • Trends in machinery design
  • Regional considerations in machine design and automation
  • Regional strategies of machine builders
  • Regional strategies for automation suppliers
